Work done on Scarlet Horizons on Saturday 30 December 2023

- Posted in Scarlet-Horizons by

I did quite a bit of work on the Scarlet Horizons related part of my website this afternoon and evening.

I reviewed Gursk Spiritspeaker's vision so that I'll keep it top of mind as Aury and Mattie continue their Barrowmaze incursions.

I've started working on a section of the website to hold information related to the forces, factions, powers, and personae that are the movers and the shakers in my Scarlet Horizons setting.

Additionally, I updated the webpage for the regional subsector map, Southeastern Stigrix, so that it now has hotspots that link to a local map — helpful for my solo characters campaign — and it shows the relationship of the Slaytonthorpe area within the larger region.

Head crud and last workday before holiday break

- Posted in Uncategorized by

I think I'm getting a touch of the head crud that some other family members have struggled with the past several days. Not a sinus infection, as far as I can tell, but annoying.

Today is the last day of work before the Christmas holiday, for me. Susan has been off all week — well-deserved, and much needed.

Here are the Crocus Millers, in a picture taken in January of 2018. In March 2018, we lost dad (front right) to kidney disease, histoplasmosis, diabetes, and other factors including just old age. Then on August 31, 2022, we lost Allan (back right) to the decades' toll of alcoholism. The shockingly handsome one to Allan's left is yours truly. Mother was born in 1947, so I guess she's going on 71 in this picture, and dad would have been 80.

Well, I'm going to run my 9:30 am EST provider makeup group in a little over half an hour from now. It looks like a fairly relaxed day compared to my schedule earlier in the week. Someday over the break, I've got to finish some discharge reviews.

This evening, I worked on my Scarlet Horizons combination game setting/system. I added the Cleric core class, and I'm fairly happy with it. I'm also mostly finished with the writeup for the core Thief class.

Earlier this afternoon I was able to add several Heroic Deeds to a growing list.

Work was okay. I covered a 4 pm group. No major stressors.

I continue working to move old blog posts to my new domain: bryanmiller.us.

Worked - did two groups

I ran my two groups and did my notes today. This afternoon and evening I added some more pictures of A (some had me and M in them too). I read through Blood and Treasure this evening. Nice OSR flavor. I still need to read Labyrinth Lord, but B&T might be a contender for my solo system.

Spickard cat and

I begin today's blog entry with this happy memory from my childhood — the ubiquitous puddy tat that always seemed be somewhere nearby at my great aunt and uncle Spickard's house next door as I was growing up.

This morning, Susan has gone to take care of a patient being discharged from the hospital. She has to dress a wound. I've been struggling with anxiety and depression and messaged my friend-in-similar-straits, KB, via Facebook Messenger, to inquire about how well he's coping with his own symptoms.

I think I've been so stressed at work at Adanta that I've felt the urge to escape, but I wonder if I'm not better off to stay put and see it through. I only lack 4 years till full retirement. At least that will be a few hundred dollars a month, and I could then seek to embark on another 10+ year career elsewhere (or else re-contracting with Adanta).

I've also been working on the Unit 4 Step 2 lesson in my C# programming social learning units on my Facebook group.

Work stress and Christmas coming soon

- Posted in Uncategorized by

Four days until Christmas. I haven't posted a blog entry in 9 days.

I've been having a lot of anxiety, chiefly I think due to the mess in TR: Kelly on leave, C being so high-maintenance. I actually faked a reason to be off work yesterday and interviewed with Heritage Children's Services at their Somerset location. MG was one of the two who interviewed me. I think my chances of getting it are pretty decent. It might only turn out to be $1500-$2000 more than I'm making, but I just feel I need a change. There's no chance of me advancing further where I'm currently working.

On another front, I've been spending some effort to gather group members and promote my William Miller Services side business. Group membership is growing well, but I've not seen an uptick in sales of various services.

Drama at work

It's been a stressful two weeks at work.

I've been working quite a bit on my Facebook group, and membership has grown to over one-hundred. I'm thinking about approaching a couple people about being admins.

I got up an hour earlier than I had to this morning. My iPhone was still stuck on Eastern time after our agency-wide breakfast and staff appreciation meeting yesterday morning.

Still recovering

Rough week. Friday, Supe and I did a written reprimand and PIP on someone.

I hate this kind of work stress. The personal/personnel kind. I can handle work-load/paperwork stress much easier. I put the dogs to bed last night at 7:40 and was in bed reading at 8pm. Still recovering from the UTI.

I'm 28% into my current Variant Publications proofreading job, which is around 193K words total. Today, I will also work more on Tracie S's dissertation proposal.

Family tree

Today, I had eight clients at TR. K was off and C and I handled things. Everything went smoothly. A couple of TC's practicum students spent much of the day with us. I found a family tree schematic I made years ago.

To read the contents of the family tree clearly, you'll have to download the file and zoom in with an image editor.

I typed a letter for P to send to the court. I floated the idea of closing one member due to low attendance. We had hot dogs, baked beans, and onion rings for lunch.

We had supper to celebrate Mamaw's birthday: beef and gravy over biscuits. Very good! Jimmie was confused but pleasant. Ice cream sandwich and coffee afterward.

On the left, a picture of our three dogs, brought to you courtesy of a backup of Susan's iPhone pics.

We're watching Money Heist again tonight. I think we're on episode four of season two. A is cooking H supper. He seems to be doing well on medication. I really like the guy. I hope everything works out for them, long-term.

K has pulled another of her stunts, cried off a second consecutive day of work. I think I'll just pick up some frozen pizzas for TR to eat tomorrow. Of course, tomorrow is our cra-cra day, super-busy with the prescribers there, and staff meeting. That means I'll be out of pocket a lot, and C will be more stressed than usual. This makes frozen pizza seem an even better idea.

Today when I got to work C. had emailed me, upset. She'd discovered the refrigerator door wide open, temperature 70 °F. I had K. requisition emergency money from the Business Office to replace a few perishables. We still had our roast for lunch — Manhattan style.

Allan made it in about 3ish this afternoon. I saw Dr. Sherry Jones and got enough refills for 6+ months. Then Susan and I went and had supper with Bobo and Allan in Crocus.

We had white beans, cornbread, relish, onions, pork chops, country ham, fried potatoes, and boiled cabbage.

I came across a couple more pictures of dad I collected in the days and weeks after he passed in March 2016. Sure do miss him.

Tomorrow, I'll call CertaCare and have them fill the B12 sublingual and the vitamin D. I'll pick it up after work, do my 10K run, then have supper with Allan and Bobo before he and I play some Magic: The Gathering.
