Sharphen

Sharphening occurs when a drug or trance state elevates the senses and expands the mind. A sharphened state is often characterized by enhanced awareness of the spiritual realm, and by the mind making connections and intuitive leaps. Body, Mind, and Spirit are in heightened synergy while one is sharphened (see Terminology), bringing into focus a derived attribute called Forte.

Stenn Bearclaws, the primary protagonist in the Endless Rime campaign. Here is a 12.26.25 character sheet snapshot.

Stenn is Drogan Elkfist's closest friend, and is life mate of Jenkla.

Traits:

  • Affable: add +2 when participating in social activities, to reflect poise/bearing/looks
  • Thuggishly strong: +1 to break, bend, lift, and in melee combat
  • Star Spirit: a powerful cipher for which Stenn is the key; can add +1 to dice pool occasionally

Drogan once punched an injured elk in the head, killing it. Hence, Drogan Elkfist. Drogan and Stenn are staunch friends. Drogan venerates Herne.

Traits:

  • Spear Arm: +1 die whenever rolling a dice-pool related to spear-use
  • Hunter's Instinct: +1 die when rolling a dice-pool for danger-sense or reaction-time
  • Elk-Fist: +1 die to break, shatter, stun
    • 5% per point in Body to stun humanoid foe when punching it
    • on margin of success 3+, instantly kills stunned creature
    • also applies to four-legged, non-monstrous/non-bear game animals

Malachai of the Stalks

Malachai, or He-Who-Walks-Between-the-Stalks, is one of the Ancient Gods or Anganach. His followers believe that they must make ritual blood sacrifices to appease Malachai or he would fail to provide them with a bountiful harvest. His symbol is a sneering black face crowned with corn stalks. Some believe he may be connected to the sphere of fertility. Signs of Malachai's displeasure include blights, blizzards, and children who die in childbirth.

Herne the Horned Hunter

Demi-God of the Hunt, Swamps and Forests
Symbol: An antlered human face or stag head

Herne is one of the Anganach or Ancient Ones. Herne is a god of the northern woodlands, swamps, and the creatures that inhabit them. He prefers to take the form of a deer, or a man with an antlered deer's head. Herne chooses a favoured son to serve him as the Guardian of the Forest. Each fall, some among the Tall Ones celebrate the harvest by constructing a large effigy of Green Man or Herne in the village square made of dried peat, reeds, and hay.

The villagers, wearing masks symbolizing the animals of the swamp and forest, surround the effigy with sacrifices, conduct prayers, and then light it aflame on the night of the Autumnal Equinox. This is followed by a celebration of drinking, singing, and dancing.

Anima

Anima is a derived attribute calculated by adding together Mind and Spirit, dividing the sum by two, and then rounding up (usually, rounding is downward for calculating derived attributes). Anima stipulates the size of a dice pool used for invoking a spirit's intervention.

Forte

Body and Spirit are in heightened synergy while one is sharphened, bringing into focus a derived attribute called Forte; Forte is to Body & Spirit what Anima is to Spirit & Mind. But whereas Anima comes into play when invoking the Spirits, Forte is the Body and Spirit jointly supporting and then launching the Mind into a refined trajectory, into an altitude of awareness where it can perceive many things usually beyond its grasp. Forte is the average of Body and Spirit, rounded down.
