Hamelet — When the surviving dwarves of Gundgathol fled to the surface almost three centuries ago, they were befriended by local humans. Jointly, the two races established the town of Hamelet, which became well-known for its citizen militia, it's cyclopean component, and the extremely high quality metal goods its smiths produced.

The cyclops of Hamelet are generally peaceful, whereas those encountered in the Underdark usually are decidedly not. Eye Bane: usable once per round, this gaze attack slows a foe who doesn't succeed at a saving throw versus rods. A foe so-affected may make another saving throw attempt the following round, but at -2 penalty. If it fails, the slow effect lasts for the remainder of that encounter.

Cyclops stand seven to eight feet in height and generally weigh from 250 to 350 pounds. Because of their very tough skin, they have DR 1/-. Cyclops may not drink ethanol: it is poisonous to them. They're very literal creatures and often have difficulty understanding the idioms of other humanoid races.

The Visitation

- Posted in Scarlet-Horizons by

Visitors, The — Aliens who visited Earth hundreds of thousands of years ago during The Visitation, probably somewhere in the time period the Ancients would have dated 2004 to 2025. The number of sages who hold to this theory is larger than one might surmise, perhaps because of the fair amount of certainty among scholars regarding the extrasolar origin of one other existing race not originating on Earth — the illithids.

Although both analog and digital records of the event may all now be lost to history, The Visitors were first encountered by human beings on November 14, 2004, during a U.S. naval training mission near San Diego. Two Super Hornet pilots were the first homo sapiens to observe this alien visitation.

Heroic Deed: Eagle Eye

- Posted in Scarlet-Horizons by

Available to Ranger 1+, Bard 2+, Fighter 4+, Thief 6+. This heroic deed may be used in the same round as Aim Carefully. Make a ranged weapon attack roll against a creature this round, adding the Risk Die result to your ranged to-hit roll. You can use this ability before or after making the attack roll, but before the GM says whether the attack hits or misses. If used in conjunction with Aim Carefully, this deed adds three additional damage dice.

Heroic Deed: Aim Carefully

- Posted in Scarlet-Horizons by

Available to ALL. This heroic deed may be used in the same round as Eagle Eye. Take six seconds (one full round) to control your breathing and mindfully aim before making a ranged attack. That attack gains a +4 bonus to-hit, +5 if you are a halfling making a ranged attack with a sling; also +5 if you are an elf using a bow. If the shot hits, you also deal two additional dice of damage. If nudged, bumped, or you suffer damage while aiming, you fail to benefit from this deed. If the aimed shot hits and the Risk Die result was '8', add one percentile point to your Dexterity score. This deed can be used in tandem with Eagle Eye.
